Well now, what is Motley Pursuits and what is it all about?

It’s about my life, my interests, and all that I enjoy and do.
The things I've done, the things I've learned and the things I wish to share with you:

Climbing a local crag or mountain top.

Kayaking through the San Juan Islands.

Shooting up some steel with my friends.

Practicing martial arts is all a good time.

These are just a few ways that I enjoy spending my time. Teaching what I know comes naturally so if you have a listening ear and are appreciative of what I have to say, then come along with me and enjoy my Motley Pursuits.

“Flow Like Water”
Water is one of the four elements. It can represent great softness or a great unstoppable power. Drop by drop or as a surging force it can go under, over or through an obstacle. It can blend and shape or can shatter rock. It symbolizes my martial arts practice and my life.

The photo on the home page was taken at Niagara Falls; in my martial life, water is intertwined with martial thought. Like water, at times we want to resist an incoming force. At other times it’s an advantage to flow with it, moving and accepting its direction or path.

In martial combat, one is often not the strongest and many times you’ll face a more powerful opponent. When this is the case, it’s best to be the softest. I strive to achieve this, as I consider it to be the highest level of skill.

By following this philosophy, we can overcome all obstacles in our path. Continue to pursue, and flow like water, my friend.
